Alapocas Run State Park is a beautiful state park located at 1914 W. Park Drive in Wilmington, Delaware. The park is open year-round and spans an area of 415 acres. It is situated along the Brandywine Creek and its Alapocas Run tributary, offering visitors a chance to experience both natural resources and a rich industrial and cultural history.

The park features mature woodlands and the Brandywine River, making it a great place for nature lovers. One of the main attractions of the park is the Blue Rock cliff, which was formerly quarried and is now home to the state’s only natural rock-climbing wall. The park also includes the Blue Ball Barn, a dairy barn built by Alfred I. du Pont as part of his Nemours estate in 1914. The barn now houses the Delaware Folk Art Collection and tells the park’s history in story form.

In addition to its natural beauty, the park offers a range of recreational activities. There are walking trails, athletic fields, and playgrounds for children. The park also features a rock climbing wall, part of an old quarry across from historic Bancroft Mills on the Brandywine. The quarry is also used for school educational programs centered on earth sciences.

The park also has a Storybook Trail that winds around the Can-do Playground, which is designed to be accessible to every child. Alapocas Run is also home to the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail, a National Recreation Trail.

The park was created as a city park named Alapocas Woods in the early 1900s by local industrialist William Poole Bancroft. It became a state park in 2002 and has since grown to its current size, offering a wide range of amenities and activities for visitors.
